Kuala Lumpur: Maser (M) Sdn Bhd, a company specialising in energy, infrastructure development, industrial automation and engineering projects, is eyeing three co-generation power plant projects in Peninsular Malaysia worth up to RM200 million.

Co-generation is a highly-efficient power generation utilising fuel to produce electricity and useful heat at the same time.

Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Fadzli Sharif, said the three power plants had a combined 30-megawatt (MW) generation which would be supplied to multinational companies (MNCs) in the car industry.

“We are looking to secure long-term power purchase agreements with MNCs off-taking the capacity generated,” he told reporters after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd and Japan’s IHI Corp here today.

He said the MOU aimed to spur the development of co-generation business in Malaysia, including facilitating the three power plant projects. There are about 50 such plants in Malaysia now, he said.

The MOU signalled a tripartite commitment in pursuing future and potential cogeneration business prospects, especially in the Malaysian automotive and manufacturing sectors while strengthening existing relations.

Under the MOU, UiTM would act as co-investor and co-financier while IHI would provide the power generating products including gas turbines, diesel engines and gas engines as well as technical support. – Bernama
